Growing up as a teenager in the 1970’s, the music scene of the time was in the midst of significant growth and change.  Not only for the music we listened to, but also how we listened to it.

Top 40 music was, for the most part, still dominant, and most teenagers would listen to the hits on their portable transistor radios, singing along to the staticky sounding, mono AM station broadcasts.  But FM radio was starting to gain popularity.  The FM station transmissions provided much clearer sound quality, stereo broadcasts, and a new show format that was a game changer….album rock...!

Although I started collecting 45 rpm singles (and actually, I still have them) in my pre-teen years, as a teen I became obsessed with LP’s.  I couldn’t wait to go to the record stores, and spend countless hours flipping through the seemingly endless bins of albums, and racks of cassette tapes.  Whatever I could afford at the time, I would purchase, rush home, put on my headphones, and read the album cover and inserts over and over, while I listened to the music.

During this time, the change in music styles and genres were evident.  It was clear the British Invasion was here to stay.  Rock music was proving that it was much more than just a fad fueled by the protesting hippies of the 1960’s.  Country music was seeing it’s classic “Cowboy” and “Honkey Tonk” performers of the ’50 & ‘60’s give way to the newer “Outlaw” style of country music.  Folk music still had its share of airplay and listeners, but its popularity was declining.  And, of course, the late ‘70’s gave us the birth of Disco.

My love of music was broad, but there were certain bands and artists whose music I always gravitated towards:

You get the idea.....

I started playing guitar at the age of 11, and over the years I have certainly learned to play & sing many of the songs from that era.

But the wonderful thing about music is, there are always new generations of singers and songwriters who come along and create songs that can touch your emotions, make you want to sing along, and make you want to listen to them over and over again.  There are way too many of them to list here, but a sampling of favorites for me would be:

Music is timeless, and I find that I have just as much fun, and derive just as much pleasure when I learn a new song by Frank Sinatra, released back in 1964, as I do from a song by The Secret Sisters, released in 2024.

While in college, I would play gigs at the university coffee house, and at frequent live music events.  I also played at many weddings in the ‘80s and early ‘90s.

From the mid ‘90s until recently.…for many reasons.…my music performances were put on hold.  It would be fair to say that “life got in the way”.

However, now that I have retired from the corporate world, I have revived my passion for playing guitar, singing, and performing live.

So that is why I have created this website, “Covered In Acoustics”.  In addition to providing information about myself as an artist, and posting performance schedules, I have also included 2 music related pages:

Song List – Over the years that I have been playing guitar and singing, I have easily learned hundreds and hundreds songs.  This list only reflects a subset of the entire list, which are those songs that I have chosen (so far) that fit in with the direction and style of what I want to perform at live events moving forward.  This Song List is a working, ever growing list, that I will be continuously adding new titles to in the future.

Music - This page contains selected songs that I have recently recorded.  I chose these to present a good cross section of the types of songs and playing styles that I perform.  These recordings are all guitar (or ukulele) and vocal arrangements.  I wanted to represent how these songs would be heard at a live performance, so I didn’t include any additional instruments (bass, percussion, keyboards, etc.) or harmony vocals.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope to see you soon at a live show...!
